Mataaaa??

July 22nd, 2010 | Category: Games,films

Once again, no real news.
No update on the situation with my exam results
No Job
No real journies out of the house…

- Have started driving lessons again, but the teacher is a bit of a weeb, im only really staying with him because he has a good car which is easy to drive.

- Coming towards the end of anime ‘one outs‘ m still enjoying it. It really is alot like kaiji (which is also enjoyed)

- League of legends seems to have died down recently, i guess people are starting to get bored of it, i suppose there is only so many ways you can push a lane and use 4 skills. Saying that, most of the key players have been offline recently so maybe thats the only reason. 5v5 premades really are a completely different game to solo or 3v3′s

- Spurred on by boyce, Ive started playing WoW again (wuh oh). Currently level 12 on Frostmane EU server. I actually picked a mage again, despite already having one… I did consider rogue or hunter, but at the end of the day nothing really beats a class that has good damage, survivability, the ability to create food/drink and is able to teleport to all major cities instead of taking public transport (hell, i can even jump off cliffs with the aid of slow fall)

- Alien Swarm – Free on PC via steam, is actually an awesome game, It can be easily compared to a top down alien version of left 4 dead and its good stuff, alot of fun and you really need abit of teamwork to be able to survive (on higher difficulties anyway). It also has a persistent unlock system which is pretty cool.

- Oh, i saw Inception last week. Its a pretty damn sweet film. Something like a cross between the matrix and oceans 11. Really worth a watch.

Unthinkable (2010)

May 29th, 2010 | Category: films

Another film with Good’ol sammy J
A rough overview of the plot is a terrorist has planted 3 nuclear bombs in american cities, they are all rigged to blow in 4 days. The only way to find the bombs (assuming there are bombs and its not all a big hoax) is to interrogate the terrorist – who was caught.
Bring in Sammy J then.
The majority of the film is pretty much Sammy attempting to find out where the motherfuckin’ bombs are, he’s a tough cookie though so he has to do all sorts of crazy shit.

The film was…. I dont even know whether i enjoyed it or not, although something made me want to watch it through to the end at least so it cant have been that bad (I have a habit of cutting my losses if the film is still being shit after 20-30 mins). Once you start watching you really want to find out whether he manages to crack the terrorist and make him tell them the bomb locations, that grip is pretty much the bulk of the film.

No idea what to rate it , or whether or not you should watch it. *shrugs*

Oh. it also has Trinity from the matrix in it.

Maybe this trailer will sum up the film better than I have.

City of God (2002)

May 17th, 2010 | Category: films

cityofgod

So the girls (well.. 2 of them anyway) came over last night to watch a film, one of them being a film student so we obviously HAD to watch something at least somewhat artsy…

So City of god is the story about some black people in Brazil who basically go around and be black. The whole film is more or less about getting laid, paid and shootin busta’s. It is divided into a few sub-stories, all linked together and in the same world, and all somewhat revolving around a guy called Rocket caught between an honest living, and the ghetto side of drugs, guns and bitches.

The film felt like it went on forever, it truly is an epic, spreading over a large time period and even multiple story arcs. I think the actual running time is just over 2 hours, but my god did it feel alot longer.
Its hard to compare or contrast it to anything else ive seen, but it did remind me somewhat of ‘Slumdog millionaire’ in the way that it tells a very long and dramatic story following a kids life all the way through til the end.

I rarely watch serious films like this, but it did have a good story (and one would really hope so considering the running time). The film is all in spoken portugese so expect to have to do some reading if you watch it, and there is a clear lack of brazillian “HUAEHUAEHAUEHAUEHAUE”s, but overall its a good film, just make sure you’re in the right mood for something serious and somewhat depressing.

The men who stare at goats (2009)

May 16th, 2010 | Category: films

the-men-who-stare-at-goats-movie-image-george-clooney

Just saw this film tonight on a whim (after an awesome day of paintballing i might add.)

It was.. very odd.
Im not entirely sure if it was supposed to be a comedy or what, but it I found it pretty funny.
The film is based on psy-ops and the users of said powers, supersoldiers (supposedly) [and not like the marathon/light/commando supersoldier type] , and…. okay tbh, im not even sure what the film was about, it was really weird. The humour in the film wasn’t really ‘in your face’, like a teen movie or something, but rather a subtle well thought out, well scripted wittiness – It was a nice change from the usual films we seem to watch in this house, although you may need an odd sense of humour to appreciate alot of it (if you don’t laugh at the ‘fork in the road’ bit, this film is a lost cause for you)

Worth a watch – 8/10
(unlike this stupid ‘gap yah’ thing that everyone has been going on about, I saw it for the first time earlier, it was fucking terrible and really unfunny. What the fuck is wrong with people nowadays.)

Iron Man 2 (2010)

May 02nd, 2010 | Category: films

iman2

So, just came back from watching Iron Man 2, we actually got pretty fuckin terrible seats since we rolled in a little bit late (on a friday, at prime time) so we got lumped towards the front and to the side, which i HATE.

Nonetheless, I found the film to be really enjoyable, the film focuses more on the characters relationships with each other and shit than the first film (which consisted mainly of blowing shit up) but the film makes up for this with good amounts of comedy and corny one-liners (which may not be to everyones tastes). Thats not to say the film is short of explosions, theres some very impressive CGI and special effects at work throughout lots of the film and the climax is pretty damn awesome to watch. Film felt alot shorter than it actually was, which i suppose is a good thing? I think it is actually around 2 hours but it felt more like 1.5 – always better than a film which is 1.5hrs long but feels like it goes on forever. Oh. also, Samuel L jackson plays a black cyclops.

tldr; Good film. good special effects, lots of one liners, Sammy J, watch it.

Clash of the Titans (2010)

April 02nd, 2010 | Category: films

clash

So went to see Clash of the titans today, opening day, in 3d.
Ticket prices were ridiculous and tbh, it just wasnt worth it.

The film seemed awfully slow, which is odd considering the type of film it is, the film plods along fairly slowly the whole way through, throwing in some fights here and there however only 1 of them (the scorpion encounter) was any good to watch, even the final battle – that against hades and the kraken seemed over way too fast and… just not very entertaining, it was like that bit in indiana jones where the martial arts guy is going crazy and he just pulls out a pistol and kills him. Perseus pretty much just 1shots every enemy in the film (aside from the scorpions, which is probably why that battle was the best).
I went with some people who had seen the original, and they all seemed to agree that the original was far superior, I cant really comment on this because i havent seen the original but thought id throw it out there.

The 3d effects on this film were pretty pathetic, it seemed 3d in the same sense that ‘New super mario bros’ is 3d, all 3d but only on 1 plane.. sorta thing. As opposed to a film like Avatar where watching it in 3d really enhanced the experience by clearly having stuff in the foreground and background and overlays and stuff. Its really NOT worth seeing this one in 3D at all unless you enjoy straining your eyes and having the screen darkened by the glasses.

Dont really know what else to say, I could say abit more but id spoil…. fuckit, half the plot is given in the trailer anyway.
I did like the bit where he cuts off medusa’s head and uses it, Pretty sure that was in God of war 2 or something.

Disapointingly, the only good parts in this film was the CGI – which was impressive. The rest just seemed like the same plot points being fed to the audience again and again, ‘im going to kill hades’, ‘im going to kill hades’ , ‘did i mention im going to kill hades?’.

Summer Wars (2009)

March 30th, 2010 | Category: Anime,films

summerwars
Summer wars is a 2 hour film from the same guy that directed ‘The girl who leapt through time’.
Without spoiling too much, imagine… the matrix, but fun and without the human enslaving bit, and then unleash a virus in the matrix, and then make the matrix have mirror effects on the real world.

Its a really, really good film, probably the best animated film ive ever watched – including ghibli’s stuff. But then, thats just my opinion i suppose.

Definately worth a watch though.

<3 Jason Statham

February 06th, 2010 | Category: Uni stuff,films

So last night decided to watch ‘Transporter 2′ because apparently I downloaded it ages ago in 720p , go me.
Film was actually amazing , I sort of forgot how awesome Jason Statham is (like i knew he was awesome , but not the level of awesome he presents in Transporter2).
This led to me checking out what other films he’s in on IMDB , this is when i came across a film called ‘The Expendables’….

expendables
The term ‘Holy shit’ doesnt really cover it really , a film with Stallone , Jet Li AND Jason Statham? The fuck. All it needs is ‘The Rock’ and it would be guaranteed ‘action film of the millenium’.

Going to watch Transporter 3 today at some point.. maybe now considering i just woke up and have nothing to do…. well… thats a lie , I have plenty of work to do but ugghhhhh.

Lab reports are really not something i want to do right now , they’re confusing and tbh since we did them up to 4 weeks ago i cant even remember the details of them that well anymore ~.~

Ive also recieved my next Essay title, due in on week 20 (March 18th) , the title is…
“Molecular diagnostics in medical microbiology : Yesterday , today and tomorrow’
Which is… idk… It doesnt sound particuarly nice but then again it doesnt sound TOO hard to write , surely its just researching molecular diagnostics in the past , where they are now and what they will be able to do in the future… I hope anyway

Shoot ‘em up (2007)

January 30th, 2010 | Category: films

Its been a while since ive seen a film so good it deserved its own blog post.

‘Shoot em up’ is one of those films, i watched it Saturday night with housemates and its definately been a while since ive seen anything so ridiculous.

So the plot is…. well.. fucking abysmal. Its ridiculous and nonsensical. The characters are equally ridiculous and nonsensical – a prostitute with milky tits , a random baby, a hero who makes agent tequilla (Hardboiled/stranglehold) look like an amateur and who spits out more one liners than Arnold Schwarzenegger , and a bad guy who is fucking telepathic and takes about 10 bullets over the course of the film and refuses to die.

shootemup

Its hard to explain why the film is so good without spoiling some of the best bits of the film…. so ill only spoil a few , a scene where the hero takes out a heavily armed assault team whilst naked and fucking the hooker , a scene where he shoots the back of a filing cabinet and the drawer hits some guy in the face (knocking him unconscious of course.) , a scene where he has a gunfight whilst freefalling out of a plane (because bullets still travel in straight lines when you’re moving at terminal velocity) , and finally he stabs a guy in the eye with a carrot.

I actually hacked the DVD and found some extra features , The film was originally going to be….

johnwoomaxpayne
But they were concenered the film  would be TOO good and kill off the movie industry as we know it , after all,  why bother trying to top a max payne film starring chev chellios eh.

See. This. Film.

Tribute to the best christmas film ever.

December 19th, 2009 | Category: films

jingle

A christmas comedy featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger? The fuck are you waiting for?

Ive lost count of how many times ive seen this film , theres something very special about seeing arnie uppercut a reindeer or get into a fight with a small army of santas.

2nd and 3rd place go to ‘Muppet christmas carol’ and ‘Nightmare before christmas’ , both awesome but a lack of arnie is their downfall
